Released on May 7, 1996, Stories of Tha Damned is one of the many Cellmates tapes, a duo consisting of rapper Tha Kaptin and vocalist King Tweet, who provides the hooks and background vocals throughout the project. The album was produced by Garwyne Jones, best known for producing Shawty Pimp’s Million Dollar Nigga, while Mr. Will, renowned for his work alongside DJ Sound, Dirty Red, and Lil Bay. Also contributed drum programming on several tracks. The tape also features guest appearances from That Nigga Lil Risky, Ghetto Red, Sniper, and Z-d-a as a backing vocalist. Blending Frayser and North Memphis Hollywood talent into a polished independent release. With its dark production, memorable hooks, and strong songwriting, Stories of Tha Damned stands as one of the more overlooked Memphis underground albums of 1996 and remains a favorite among collectors.
