Hailing from West Point, Mississippi, Ruff Draft released this self-titled tape in 1996 before later evolving into the Ruff Draft Thugz. The project features D.B., Chaos, Shunn B, and Nalo, delivering a laid-back yet street-oriented style over stripped-down Southern production. According to those involved with the project, DJ Paul and Juicy J assisted with the production of the tape’s final track, reflecting the close musical ties between northern Mississippi artists and the Memphis underground scene during the mid-1990s. Although brief, Ruff Draft serves as an important introduction to the group’s early sound before expanding their lineup and identity on later releases.
