Indo G & Lil Blunt – The Antidote (1994)

Released in 1994, The Antidote marked a major turning point for Indo G & Lil Blunt as well as their producer Scratch Machine Killa (SMK). Before Three 6 Mafia or DJ Squeeky landed record deals of their own, Indo G & Lil Blunt, alongside SMK. Were signed to Luther Campbell AKA Luke Sky Walker of 2 Live Crew, making this their first nationwide release. SMK handled the album’s production and brought a distinct Miami Bass influence to the project, shaped by time he spent living in West Palm Beach, Florida prior to Memphis. That Southern Florida bass sound blends throughout the album with the darker, street-level Memphis rap style, resulting in a release that feels both regionally unique and unmistakably rooted in Southern Hip-Hop. The Antidote stands as an important transitional record bridging the Memphis underground with Florida bass production released just before Memphis rap would begin gaining wider national attention.
