Gangsta Pat – Deadly Verses (1995)

Deadly Verses marks Gangsta Pat’s return to the Memphis underground during the height of the city’s most influential era, released sometime between May and July of 1995. Coming off the momentum of his earlier tapes, Pat sharpens his delivery here with a darker, more aggressive tone that fits perfectly alongside the mid-’90s Memphis soundscape. One of the standout moments on Deadly Verses is Pat’s own roll-call style version of “Tear Tha Club Up,” clearly inspired by Three 6 Mafia’s original but reworked to spotlight local Memphis artists and crews. Rather than biting the formula, Pat uses it as a tribute. Reinforcing how interconnected the scene was at the time, even among artists operating independently. The tape balances solo Pat tracks with features from Psycho and Tha Villain, leaning into themes of paranoia, street survival, violence, and morality. Songs like “Smokin’ With Tha Devil” and “Heaven or Hell?” reflect the internal conflict common in Memphis rap of this period, while tracks such as “Mo Murder” and “Killa II” keep the energy raw and unfiltered. Deadly Verses didn’t receive wide promotion outside Memphis, but it circulated locally and among collectors, earning its place as one of Gangsta Pat’s grittier mid-’90s releases. It stands as a strong example of how artists outside the Three 6 core were still actively shaping and responding to the city’s evolving sound in 1995.

Tape has previously been repaired and resealed with adhesives. Should still play normally for many more years as the rip demonstrates.
