This cassette was purchased directly from Player 1 and represents a major turning point in DJ Sound’s career. According to DJ Sound himself, Volume #4 was his most successful release up to that point and marked the moment he fully transitioned into relying on his own production, rather than primarily mixing other artists’ records. The tape captures DJ Sound refining his signature style during a critical period in early ’90s Memphis rap, blending raw street records with original beats and tight sequencing. Many of the artists featured here were closely connected to his circle, giving the tape a cohesive, in-house feel that set it apart from earlier volumes. This release laid the groundwork for the production-focused approach that would define DJ Sound’s later work.
