DJ Livewire – Volume #6: The Butcher Shop Mix (1994)
Volume #6 is one of DJ Livewire’s most raw and street-oriented releases, documenting the Butcher Squad camp. Released in 1994, this tape blends local underground Memphis artists with a few well-placed national cuts, all stitched together through Livewire’s gritty DJ sequencing. Featuring appearances from Underground Sam, Lil Lo, Laylow, Michelob, Emp Da Pimp, and others closely tied to the Memphis underground, the tape leans heavily into hard, minimal, no-frills Memphis rap. The inclusion of instrumentals, interludes, and abrupt transitions gives the mix a distinctly DJ-first feel. This tape was released as a follow-up to the successful Volume #5. Volume #7 is confirmed to exist, but is still yet to be heard.
