Strapped With Them Thangs is a legendary tape produced featuring DJ Zirk, DJ Squeeky, and the 2 Thick circle, capturing that raw Orange Mound / South Memphis energy at its peak. What makes this tape especially important historically is that it marks the first known appearance of Tinimaine on tape. Before his later work and recognition, this was his entry point into the scene, surrounded by artists who were already deeply embedded in the underground tape network. Accoridng to Tini, he even wrote the verse for Frezno on “Fuck Them Hos” & the “Dedications” track. Keep in mind Tinimaine was only 16 at this time and from East Memphis. Production-wise, the tape leans heavily into that gritty, mid-90s Memphis sound. Slow tempos, heavy basslines, and minimal but menacing melodies. DJ Zirk and DJ Squeeky both leave clear fingerprints on the tape, with interludes and transitions that keep it feeling like a true cassette-era project rather than a loose collection of songs. This is one of those releases that feels less polished but more authentic because of it. No label pressure, no outside influence. Just straight Memphis street rap recorded for the streets of Memphis first.
