One of the earliest breakout moments for 8Ball & MJG and widely regarded as their first major underground hit. Originally released in 1991, “Listen To The Lyrics” helped establish the duo’s signature Memphis-by-way-of-Houston sound: slow-rolling beats, vivid street narratives, and a heavy emphasis on pimp talk that would later define much of Southern rap in the early ’90s. The song’s success played a key role in spreading their name beyond Memphis, setting the foundation for their later albums and wider recognition.
