    Extremely rare and previously unheard mid-80s live club mix recorded at Club No Name in Memphis and hosted by Ray Tha Jay. While the cassette itself is labeled 1984, several tracks included were not released until late 1985, placing this mix firmly in late 1985 or very early 1986. This tape captures the pre–gangsta rap era of Memphis club culture, before DJ Spanish Fly and the local rap scene had taken hold inside the clubs. The best way to describe this tape is a mid 80s synth party which happens to last 88 minutes. Very possibly my longest tape. At this time, Ray Tha Jay and Soni D were the two most prominent DJs in the city, dominating dance floors with electro, freestyle, Miami bass, and early hip-hop crossover records. This mix is a look into what 80s Memphis nightlife sounded like, just before the city’s big underground rap explosion.
