KMSM Featuring Kidd Money – Black Enimie (1991) A rare and short-lived collaboration between Kidd Money (KM) and SMK (Scratch Machine Killa), Black Enimie stands as one of the most unique early-’90s Memphis underground releases. Kidd Money, originally from Palm Beach, Florida came to Memphis specifically to link with SMK on this release whose drum-machine ability was far ahead of most of the local scene at the time due to his time living in Florida alongside legendary Mimai DJ’s. That precision programming and raw rhythmic complexity are on full display here, giving the tape a sound that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the more celebrated jazz-rap East Coast projects of the same era. This is one of those overlooked gems that proves Memphis creativity ran far wider and deeper than most people realize.
