Da Madman is an early Ali Boom!!! (real name Alvertis London) release that surfaced around the summer of 1994, dropping sometime after the unreleased Ali Boom!!! – Volume #3. The tape was fully produced by Ali Boom!!!, who was about 21–22 years old at the time, while Katfish himself was still a teenager, roughly 17–18. Both were members of the group 40 Killa Mafia, a crew founded by Ali Boom!!! that stayed active from roughly 1994 through the late 1990s. Sonically, this tape stands out for its consistently high-pitched, almost piercing synth lines that run through nearly every track. That sound contrasts sharply with Katfish’s subject matter of violent street narratives, robberies, and unhinged threats. Ali Boom!!!’s presence is felt not just behind the boards but vocally as well, contributing intros, skits, and verses that help frame Katfish’s chaotic delivery. Da Madman remains a personal favorite of mine for its dark violent lyrics, loud delivery and extremely unique production.
