Curious to hear everyone’s personal favorite Three 6 Mafia producer — DJ Paul or Juicy J — since the two had such distinct production styles that helped define Memphis rap.

DJ Paul is known for his dark, slowed-down, and bass-heavy beats — the kind of smoked-out, hypnotic sound layered with repetitive, almost ritualistic hooks and lyrics about street life and the occult. His style shaped the foundation of what people now call “horrorcore trap.”

Juicy J, on the other hand, leaned more toward upbeat, sample-driven production — especially soul samples and funky grooves — often paired with wild, funny, or sex-themed songs and interludes. His sound had more bounce and crossover appeal, which helped carry Three 6 into the mainstream.

For me personally, DJ Paul is the undisputed G.O.A.T. when it comes to raw underground production. His influence is still heard in modern trap and drill music today. But Juicy’s longevity and ability to constantly reinvent himself are equally legendary. Together, they built one of the most influential sounds in Southern hip-hop history.

Who’s your favorite and why?
