Tha Crucifixion is the second release from Criminal Mafia, a South Memphis group consisting of Lil Marcuzz (also known as Lil Bobo), Lil Russell, and M.G. (also known as Lil Marlon). Released in 1996, the tape showcases the trio’s dark, street-oriented style through a mix of posse cuts, solo performances, skits, and interludes that were characteristic of many independent Memphis rap cassettes of the era. Additional appearances from Lil Fred, Lil Kevin, and Shawty Pimp help round out the project, while the group’s raw production and horror-influenced sound fit squarely within the mid-1990s Memphis underground. Tha Crucifixion has become a sought-after cassette among collectors for its gritty atmosphere and authentic South Memphis sound.
