Produced by DJ Sound and Mr. Will, Broken Halo was the final official release from DJ Sound and marked the end of one of the most influential cassette series in Memphis rap history. Although marketed as a standalone DJ Sound album rather than Volume #11, the tape serves as a continuation of his legendary mixtape series while placing a greater emphasis on the Frayser Click. Featuring appearances from Bloody Bones, Dirty Red, Lil Bay, MC Money, Gangsta Gold, Lil Yo, Kee Wee, Mad Maine, Nigga Creep, Lethal Villain, Lil Blue, D Tha Unknown, Big Devin, and several others, Broken Halo combines dark production, horror-inspired themes, and street narratives that had become synonymous with DJ Sound’s sound throughout the 1990s. Serving as the closing chapter of his original cassette run, the album remains one of the most sought-after and respected releases from the Frayser underground scene.
