A Memphis underground classic, Kickin’ It About The Bricks was released in 1996 by The Family and stands as one of the defining tapes to come out of the Blackhaven neighborhood of South Memphis. The project showcases the group’s gritty street storytelling over dark, sample-heavy production that captures the sound of mid-1990s Memphis rap. Featuring performances from Lil Ced, Lil Kapone, Loco Tha Killa, Mr. T, and Lil Boo. The tape balances hard-hitting street anthems with reflective tracks, including two versions of “Just Another Day In Blackhaven Land.” Widely respected among collectors, Kickin’ It About The Bricks remains one of the standout independent releases from the Blackhaven scene and an essential piece of Memphis rap history.
