Wanted Dead Or Alive is a key Tommy Wright III–affiliated group release, issued in June 1995, during one of the most active and aggressive periods of Memphis underground rap. The project brings together the Ten Wanted Men collective, a loose but dangerous alliance of rappers connected through Four Corners, Magnolia, and the wider South Memphis network. The group lineup includes Tommy Wright III, Princess Loko, Lil Ramsey, Mac T Dog, Project Pimp, Jesse James, Undacova, Kingpin, Wild Child, and 1st Degree, each contributing distinct street perspectives while maintaining a unified, no-frills aesthetic. Rather than functioning like a polished group album, Wanted Dead Or Alive feels closer to a street compilation, showcasing individual styles over hard, bass-heavy production. Tommy Wright III anchors the tape with multiple solo tracks and transitions, reinforcing his role as both leader and curator. Princess Loko delivers some of the tape’s most memorable moments with her cold, confrontational delivery, while Project Pimp, Lil Ramsey, and Undacova add variety without breaking the tape’s dark tone. Lyrically, the project leans heavily into themes of violence, loyalty, money, and retaliation, reflecting the raw reality of Memphis neighborhoods at the time. Like many mid-’90s Memphis releases, Wanted Dead Or Alive was pressed in limited quantities and circulated locally, making original copies difficult to find today. The tape stands as a strong example of how collectives operated outside major labels, documenting their crews, territories, and reputations on cassette with little concern for mainstream exposure.
