The Return of Psycho is Psycho’s long-awaited follow-up to his 1992 debut, released in early 1995 after several years of silence. Unlike many Memphis releases of the era, this tape is self-produced entirely by Psycho himself (Tyrone Bell), giving it a very personal and unfiltered sound. The project leans heavily into dark, horror-themed imagery, paranoia, and street realism, with graveyard motifs and ominous atmosphere running throughout. Psycho’s production is raw and minimal, placing the focus squarely on his delivery and lyrics rather than polish. Compared to his earlier work, this tape feels more controlled and deliberate, reflecting both artistic growth and the darker tone of mid-90s Memphis rap. While largely a solo effort, the tape includes a handful of features that complement its sinister mood without diluting Psycho’s presence. The Return of Psycho stands as a cult favorite among collectors, representing a rare case of a Memphis artist handling both the mic and the boards during a pivotal moment in the underground scene. This particular copy came directly from Tommy Wright III. And also is missing the original J-card cover of Psycho climbing out of a grave.
